12 Week Update
« on: February 07, 2012, 04:59:51 PM »
I was planning to have a rocking report for you,  I had my two best bicycle rides last week, a great walk through the hills in the woods near my house and I was working hard on the elliptical trainer.  All this left me pretty sore over the weekend and this week is devoted to backing up and starting over.  I'm taking it easier, staying off the bicycle, going easy on the elliptical and even keeping my walks a little shorter.

I've also gone on a serious diet.  I put on quite a bit of weight between May, when my hips finally gave out and November when I had my surgery, especially between Sept, when I had shoulder surgery and stopped working, and November.  I found a great app, My Fitness Pal, that lets you add the food you eat and subtract your activities you burn.  I'm having fun with it and I'll be back at my racing weight in time to start running in May.

Sounds good, Woodstock - I used that too for a while - it is great for tracking stuff. I also have another app that counts steps as you walk, used that early to make sure I counted right (besides, I ran out of fingers).

Just came back from the pool.  Soreness is gone.  Easy, easy, easy, staying off the bicycle all this week!

I had flu/bronchitis for three weeks (aggressively treated with antibiotics, etc. ) and am just getting back to working out. I had two workouts in sequential days, different styles one calisthenic / bag work, the other traditional gym workout.

My body is in revolt and my right hip joined in a little.. not much but just slightly sore. My left is calling my right a wimp and promising a dope slap.

Wow, I was only sore, sounds like you were terrible.  Glad you're feeling somewhat better and back to working out.

Woody

I know what you mean, I just passed 16 weeks and also in a higher pain stretch last 4-5 days, have been on stationary bike regularly, hiked the smallish hills in grape juice country last weekend, more activity seems to be more pain, in the healing hip.   Like the past 4 months where things get better over time, but with definite ups and downs along the way.

Good luck with the diet, I'm keeping on the program I started 6 months before the 1st bhr, and have gained some holiday/winter lbs, but not nearly as bad as the normal 10-15 winter padding of the past 20 years.  I'm gonna check out the app, thx for the lead.
