Cost of surgey? UK vs Belgium?

How much would a single resurfacing typically cost with Koen de Smet in Belgium?

How does that compare with Birmingham, UK?

Anyone know approximate prices?

My insurers are compaining about the MoM issue, so might have to pay myself.

Both Mcminn and Treacy in birmingham cost around £12000 I think that koen de smet is slightly more expensive but not by much. Vijay Bose on the other hand works out at around £6000.

Hi Issy
I recently returned (getting back home March 1) from a revision surgery with Dr. de Smet. Because my surgery was rather more complicated than a straightforawrd resurfacing it was considerably more expensive. However it is my understanding that de Smet is charging about 12,500 euros for a resurfacing. This includes hospital costs, medications, bandages, the pre-op exam, a pair of crutches and daily visits by a nurse and a physical therapist while you're rehabilitating in the hotel. You will have to pay the additional costs of 7 or 8 nights in the hotel (about 100 euros a night) while rehabilitating for the journey home.

I have had a remarkable recovery from my revision surgery and I now believe Dr. de Smet is one of the world's best hip surgeons. I only wish I had paid out of my pocket to have him resurface my hip in the first place.

Good luck with your hip!

With out wonderful system in the US it can cost from $50,000- $70,000. At least thats what they will bill your insurance company. Depending on the agreements with the various insurers they may actually pay as little as 10-15. If you don't have insurance and pay them cash money it was $25,000 where I went supposedly. Makes no sense. Go figure.

My bills are coming in now. The hospital bill was around $50,000. Other complementary bills in as well in addition. So far about $2,000 out of pocket. So far well worth the cost.
