Hippies and beer in paradise
« on: April 10, 2012, 11:55:10 PM »
Knew this title would get just about everyone to look.  There are a lot of athletic and triathlete hippies out there so if any of you are going to go over to the Big Island for Ironman 70.3 Hawaii, this is your chance to speak up and get free beer.  You heard it right FREE BEER!

Any hippies who come over and identify themselves after the race at Kona Brewing Company will get beer on me!  I don't care if you do the race, spectate or your only exercise is 12-ounce curls and you flew over just to get the free beer, tote your scar over and you get it.

Race date is Saturday, June 2, but the pizza and beer will probably be Sunday night June 3 since race day is a little tough for everyone, even though it is only a half-Ironman and is over pretty early.  I don't know for sure, maybe we will do it both Saturday and Sunday!

Be sure to post here if you are going to be at the event or will be on the Big Island in that timeframe.

Aloha!

UhOh...
I may have to look to see if I can still sign up.
I could do the walk/run thing with you... :)

Wish I were doing that race! I always drink beer afterwards. Whoever finishes first between one of my good friends and I is the one that has to be waiting at the finish line with beers in hand! I am 8 years older than her so it is rare that we start at the same time, but we still keep the tradition going!

I am jealous as I sit in Ohio in 44 degree temps now.   :(

Cheers!  Good Luck.

June -
This one is a mass start, not a wave start, so it would be a level playing field.  I like the concept, and my race buddies are REALLY fast (Ironman World Championship qualifiers every year), so although I would always end up with beer waiting at the finish, by the time I got in, it would be either warm or gone.  I can't trust them around beer at all.

Probably better if you just come over and do the walk / walk thing straight to the outdoor bar and I will join you there.  Much better for your hip rehab, unless you fall off the bar stool.

Kirk- Thanks for the invite.  Unfortunately I will miss this one.  I am signed up for my first triathlon in almost 21 years.  A sprint, but at least it is swim-bike-run.  I will raise a beer afterwards for sure.

I do have a free roundtrip ticket on Hawaiian Airlines though.  So I will be over there eventually.

Be sure to let me know when you do use that ticket since I am over there often (family has property and Ironman is one of my clients over there, so I write the trips off).

Good luck on your first race back!  Wow, my last event was late March 2010 after 20 years of racing many events per year and it seems like it has been so long.  I can't imagine a 21 year layoff.  Be sure to do your bricks, your legs aren't going to be familiar with running off the bike anymore.

I'll be in Kona from July 10th to 18th or so and I certainly plan on visiting Kona Brewing.  I usually see them at our local brew fest.  My bro-in-law will be there too, and as usual during family get-together's, we plan to drink some beer.  I won't be there in Oct and may never get a chance to go back to HI, but I'll hoist a pint for all you Ironmen and Ironwomen out there.

Besides drinking beer in HI, I plan to use my new hips, mostly with playing in water, and some running/hiking.  Need to start training I guess.  glug, glug.
