« on: April 27, 2012, 08:44:26 AM »
I have dysplsia in both hips and consulted Mr. McMinn. He recommended BMHR or MOM THR. I am Going for surgery on 12 th June. if I get BMHR it wil be done with bone grafting......I am very concerned about metal ions as I want one more baby,I am 32 yrs old with two kids......if I ask ceramic BMHR would it be a good idea...very confused about it......anyone there with same worries....I don't hav any metal allergies though so in this case will ceramic BMHR would be equally good option for me

There have been a few studies about metal ions and pregnancy.  Here are a couple articles
http://www.surfacehippy.info/hspregnancy.php  I have been to quite a few hip resurfacing courses and this topic is always discussed.  So far there has not been any problems that they know of.  Best to ask Mr. McMinn yourself.  He has a lot of studies up on his website, too. Most surgeons tell their patients to wait a year or two after their hip resurfacings before getting pregnant to be safe.

Please remember that the ceramic BMHR and BHR are all very new, so few people have them yet.  You can see Linda's story here with a ceramic on ceramic BHR  http://www.surfacehippy.info/hipstories.php#Mr._McMinn_Hip_Stories_

When the acetabular cups for MOM hip resurfacing and also THRs are placed properly, there are normally no metal ion issues.  In most cases, the high metal ions are from edge wear which resulted from incorrectly placed acetabular cups.  If you have time, listen to some of Mr. McMinn's videos here  http://www.surfacehippy.info/doctorinterviews/mcminninterview.php and read his responses to the negative press.

Good Luck.

jeeya,
If you have no metal allergy then i would say that the MOM issue is a non starter for you. There are plenty of patients on here who have a BHR and are mega mega active and there blood levels are in the normal range for a person with no MOM implant! Its down to surgeon skill and Mr Mcminn is really one of the best surgeons in the world so thats not a problem!
