Post op Day 2!
« on: May 16, 2012, 10:50:20 PM »
Well it day 2 and today I will be ditching the Zimmer for crutches. How much does it hurt when you first get going omg! Going to the OT's house to do stairs and general house things today. I was allowed to use the bed pan tonight but have been told they will be strict with me today! Nurses really pleased with me as I have been walking to the toilet hense with a Zimmer! First time going there great but felt a bit shaky  coming back. I am OA pain free, my numb foot has gone and that strange painful sensation whenever something cold hit my thigh has gone 😃 just looking forward now to getting better. Getting in and out of bed is an Experience to say the least lol

You'll be glad it's all over. Must be weird not having the OA pain and other symptoms. I take it you mean it is painful getting in and out of bed? You're on the road to recovery now, great stuff.

Rach;

One trick that helped me getting in and out of bed was to use the good leg, to lift the operated leg, just place your good toes/foot under your hurting ankle and lift, then if getting off pivot outwards, if getting in bed, pivot inwards. Takes a little bit of practice, but worked for me for 2 BHR's over past 8 months.

That, plus the dog leash thingee (strap with a hoop at the end) will make moving around easier in the early stages of recovery.

Hope it helps,

Dan

I was frightened by how weak I was initially but you will gain strength in your leg pretty rapidly. The first couple of days are tough.

Rach,

Happy to hear from you on the other side.  Just ice and walk is my advice, give it time.  5 days I was walking with on crutch, went meant I could Cary my coffee to the couch.  :)

Congratulations!  Don't worry the pain will ease up.  It just keeps getting better, just be patient and keep moving.

Congrats Rach!!!
I had horrible groin pain too, and at week 17 it's almost gone.  Funny how some have one pain, others have another and then it all switches up.  Healthy Healing and again - congrats!  You are so right about the O/A pain being GONE!!!
