When did u all sleep on operated side
« on: June 19, 2012, 06:24:18 PM »
Hi all I am 5 weeks post op today. This week I would say I seem to have turned
A corner! Sleeping on non operated side with pillow between knees. My groin pain has nearly gone. I haven't taken any meds today 😊 I really want to try and sleep on operated side! My 6 week follow up is 6th July, well it's 7 weeks really! Just feeling so much more positive and free of OA pain 😄 x

That's great news! I took quite a while to sleep on my operated side but then I progressed really slowly at the start.

Congrats Rach.  I was able to sleep on the operated side after about 4 weeks for the second hip, and maybe 5-6 weeks for the first one.  The pillow between the knees was really helpful both times.

Hope it helps,

Dan

Hi Rach,

Glad all is going well, it was 7-8 weeks before I slept on the op side and then only for short periods. At 11 weeks now, I still sleep longer on the non op side but both are fine. Still pillow between legs. Doesn't that first sleep on your side feel amazing?!

I am at 10 weeks (I think, I guess I don't really think about is as much now) and I think last night was the first time I fell asleep on my operated side. It is still a little sore so I can't sleep on it all night, but it's nice to be able to mix it up. It got a little frustrating sometimes, I will admit.

I can't answer the question just yet.  I am at 5 weeks and I still have a little pain on the outside of the point of the hip (perhaps bursitis ?) so I don't plan to sleep on the operated side until that is completely gone.  At four weeks I was comfortable sleeping on the non-operated side with a pillow or blanket between my legs.  I am happy just to switch back and forth between my back and the non-operated side.  I don't have any incentive to sleep on the operated side so I  probably won't try.

Thanks all. Will stick to non op side with a pillow and back.  I think because I used to always sleep on my op side before it was really painful and now that OA pain has gone my body remembers how good it was! Lol will wait for check up. X

Sleeping on your back is a pain in the butt :(

When did you guys start sleeping on the non operated side?

I think it was at 4 or 5 weeks, with a pillow between my knees.

I was at about 23 days on the operated side, a day earlier on the non-operated side. When you finally get there, any uncomfortableness (is that a word?) goes away in a few days.

I was about 4 weeks on the non op side, pillows between the knees, I didn't feel comfortable enoug to sleep like that all night and alternated with the back. Pillows under my legs helped me sleep better when on my back. My first sleep on my side felt like a huge relief.

Cheers
