Attended a pre surgery class today
« on: August 11, 2012, 05:51:50 PM »
Went to the class today. It was very informative. Taught me alot of what to expect. There were 4 men and one female in the class. Felt good to be around ppl who in the same boat. Kind of like this forum but in person. 9/11/12 coming fast!

Sounds a great idea- where are you based? Hadn`t heard of a pre op class before

i had to attend one too (chicago, il, usa) ... i assumed they were mandatory here. after going to mine, i called it "scare tactics" as they explain that you may might get the results you hope for, all things that could go wrong, and (of course) the possibility to not surviving (due to anesthesia).

i second guessed the whole procedure after going to this class but so happy that i went ahead with the operation as scheduled.

Huron valley is an awesome place. I can't say enough good things about the staff and my experience there. I'm guessing a lot of the upgrades are due to Dr Schmitt.

The nurse kept it pretty real but I didn't feel as if it were a "scare tactic" class (thankfully). It was just informative about the process and what to expect. i know there is a "risk" to any surgery. Guess it time to roll the dice. I will pray alot as I have been thru the decision process.

No craps bet will give you better odds than you have in this surgery, you're in good hands, really good odds of success. Just a bit of time and you'll be on the other side, away from the pain.

I agree, this is a very routine op, you're not really rolling dice.  You're rolling more dice on the drive to the hospital.  They just have to tell you all that.

I was supposed to take the hospital's hip surgery class, but I asked if I could forgo, since I was 6 hours away.  Also, there was some hospital/procedure-specific stuff on the net that they sent me too.
