Has anybody Grown?
« on: September 02, 2012, 11:36:46 AM »
We have a door in our house where we mark the childrens height not allowed to paint or varnish it ever. I can't remember when it was but the boys wanted Julie and I to mark our height on the door so we did. Then yesterday Julie decided to see if it was right you shrink as you get older. Oops she has lost a centimetre in height. I on the other hand bizzarely seem to have gained the centimetre she has lost. Could this be down the the fact that since the Op I have been converted from a knuckle dragging Neanderthal to Homo Erectus? People have said I look taller and I feel like I am more upright.
I told Julie that since the Op parts of my body are considerably younger which brings down my average body age so therefore I could possibly be on a growth spurt.
Just think how young you BiLats out there must avarage out at.

Hmmm, in the past 12 months I was 40 then 95 and now 40 again. I wonder if I shrunk then grew again?  ;D

Jason,
I can confirm-I too gained in height post HR. Once I was pain free, perfectly alligned, upright and confident I could feel it particularly when standing against family, friends and colleagues and most couldn't have shrunk due to the age factor!

No doubt about it. I had the common "flexion contracture" in the hip joint before surgery, which kept me always a little flexed forward at the hip joint. About a month after surgery my wife and I were out for a walk, and she looked over and said "you are taller now".
Another small bonus from resurfacing  ;)

I actually gained 1 1/2" in height from the surgery. Of course I had lost 1 1/2" in height the previous 2 years or so as the hip deteriorated so I am back to where I started.

I went from a scrawny 5'6" to a strapping 6'5" with a larger chin, nice blonde curls, huge pecks, shiny teeth (bling)  ;) ::)

Actually I think I'm the same height as before, but I like John's post about the flexion contracture (in other words "neanderthal knuck dragging".  I definitley had the forward stoop.  Feel much straighter now.  I get a lot of enjoyment out of walking fast with long smooth strides and standing tall.  It's a great feeling.

When I was at Pritchett's office a couple weeks ago, I was in the waiting room with Hipsters-to-be, or hipsters honeymooners and Susan (Pritchett's aid) called my name and I jumped up and briskly walked in.  She said, "well look at you go" and it was kinda funny, but odd for me, because I never walk slow.  Even before HR, I limped fast.  I wasn't trying to show off, really.   ::)

Walking fast is good for you, unless you're crossing a busy street and you have your headphones on.

I have actually shrunk an 1-1/2" (38 mm).  I blame this on my non-op hip.
