Paumanok Pursuit...Long Island, NY...call me maybe...
« on: September 22, 2012, 09:10:44 PM »
Starting a new venture. 1/19/13-1/21/13
125 Mile 3 day hike/run adventure. Do it all, or any one of the three day segments. We wish to start an event to honour our ancestors and our current Americans who give of themselves freely to defend this great country and those that which to keep it so.
This event will be run for the benefit of The Suffolk County Homefront, Inc.
I set up a page on Facebook to promote the event, so search and friend me if you are on there and have any interest.
Much Love...

Wow!  If you had said "Bike/Run", I would think about it.  But, the thought of running 10 or miles straight has never appealed to me, much less 40+, 3 days in a row.  Yikes!  I admire those who can, and want, to do it though.

Sweet, sounds a bit like Marathon Des Sable.  A crazy friend of mine did that race, 6 days, 151 miles across the Morrocan Desert.  Then he ran from Seattle to Portland in 2 days or something like that to benefit a child prosthetic organization.

I'm always amazed that people do that with natural hips and then I'm amazed when they do it with prosthetic hips.

Good job, sounds like a great event.

Good luck with your new Pursuit, Dave. I'm just wondering;  it's going to start out pretty small, maybe you could get more participation with a mountain bike division.  I know I'd be there.

Jim,
No MTB's oficially allowed on the trail.
Nothing set in stone on this one.  You don't have to do it alone.
Each day will be about 41-42 miles.
You can put together a relay team and do any distance you desire.
Let me know if you are interested, friend me on FB if you are there.
Best...
Dave

You guys/girls think I'm nuts on this?  There will be very little "running" just because it is so long, but even doing a fast paced 20 minute per mile jog/hike will mean 12 hours of traveling time per day.  I think it is not too much stress on the hip as it is very soft surfacing and I know I am fit enough to do it.
I'm going to do it anyway, but just seeking some backing... :)

I think you'll be fine, because it's mostly walking/running.  You've done similar haven't you?  Or at least similar for a day?

Enjoy!  What will you be carrying, backpack wise?  Are there food stops or are you on your own?

Will try to have support every 10-15 miles or as the crossing paths warrant.  Trying not to carry much.  I am starting this weekend to run and segment the stages so we can clarify for everyone...
Tin, no have never done this distance on foot...
