Noisy Hip
« on: October 31, 2012, 04:27:45 PM »
Just had hip # 2 done 3 weeks ago today, which is almost 5 years since had first one done.  Dr. Anderson in Green Bay did both and all is well.  However, I started hearing squeaky noises from the original 5 year old hip today.  Not sure if it might be from the anti swelling medication I am taking for the current 3 week old hip, and no pain, just can't sneak up on anyone.

Anyone else have the noise problem?   I am 66 and looking forward to skiing in another 3-4 months.

I might say that this is the BEST I have felt in a long time, even though I am still healing from the incision, the new hip has no pain and can put full weight on it without fear.  As always, I do worry about feeling too good and popping it out initially, before I get the muscles tightened up again.

Larry,

I had squeaking (more like the sound of running your finger around the rim of a crystal glass half filled with water) from my then 6 month old BHR when I was dehydrated, after some lifting/bending when moving a woodpile.  Kind of funny, really.  After that I had one other instance, also after a lot of outside work.  Drinking a lot of water during/after similar exertion has quieted it down, no squeaking since in that one or the other side.

I get that squeaky hip in the Summer if I am dehydrated, sometimes golfing I'll forget to bring a bottle of water, make sure to stay hydrated and you'll be fine.

In the year I have had both hips I have never heard them squeak - but thanks for the note about drinking water.  Larry I hope you are back to "silent running"

Hey All,

Thanks for the assurance it is nothing but a little grease fitting that I need, like the Tin Man in The Wizard.  It is still making noise this evening, but I had done a bunch yesterday and didn't take in as much water as I should have.  I am working on that now and hope tomorrow I will be a silent walker again.

Larry;

I found that the sports drinks (gatorade etc) help speed the rehydration.

Also found that beer and campfire http://surfacehippy.info/hiptalk/recovery-issues/squeakapalooza/msg34020/#msg34020 tend to make it worse :>)

Yeah, same here, beer and campfire always does it.

Along the lines of dehydration, I just saw post the other day about someone taking some medication, wasn't this thread, but I do think that that could be one of the more likely causes.  Many pharmeceuticals dehydrate and there might be some that dehydrate certain tissues more than ohters?  Not sure, but I do think drinking lots of water when taking meds is not only good for you kindeys, it's good for your synovial fluid.

Nope, which is why I checked back on your post and see I was wrong to doubt you...  ::)
