Newly bilateral
« on: January 21, 2013, 08:38:54 PM »
Hi everyone! Just thought I'd pop in and give you an update. On 12/12/12 I had my right hip resurfaced at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater MN. (Dr David Palmer- same surgeon as my left hip).

I have had a phenomenal recovery-- much easier than my left and that wasn't bad. My ROM is awesome; much better than my left was at 6 weeks.

I'm walking 4+ miles/day at about 4.5 mph with no pain. Now.... the long wait to run. I am registered for a 10k in May. I hope to be able to walk/run it.

Congrats from another Bi-lateral.  I went on a run today with my 13 yr old son - it was a pleasure to be trail runing in a local park.  Lots of fun - Phill

Thanks! I just realized I have to change my signature! :)

The one thing I'll do differently this time is my reintroduction to running. After my left hip, I took 4 months off and just (tried) to jump back to my previous mileage. Not smart. It took me 3 long months to figure out that I am literally starting from scratch-- a newbie runner. I won't make that mistake again.

Hey, congrats MaryEllen! Nice to see a bi hippy having a good second recovery.

We do get smarter the second time around, that sounds like a good goal. I think Arrojo or David had a whole procedure for getting back to running hippy style (queue gungam style music!!) that might help.

Nice to hear, MaryEllen, keep it up.

Congrats, Mary Ellen.  When you are ready, consider the resurfacing to 5K program!

That looks like an excellent re-entry to running. I will definitely be using that program!
