Intra-operative X-rays
« on: January 22, 2013, 09:48:53 AM »
All:

I know that Dr. Gross uses an intra-operative x-ray to check that the cup angle is correct. This seems like a good practice given how important it is to ensure the proper placement of the acetabular cup.

Does anyone know whether this is standard practice among the experienced surgeons?

If other surgeons do not use this approach, and yet achieve good results, what approach do they use?

Thanks,

Marco

Hi Marco,
I know that coming out of surgery they did and xray right there to see
that it was right. Is that what you were talking about?

I think it depends on the surgeon. I know the likes of McMinn etc don't use intra operative x rays .

We had a post about this awhile back.  I know Pritchett does.  I think Hern was tracking this a little and might have some more info.

Patty:

I am referring to doing an X-ray before finishing the procedure so the surgeon can adjust the cup angle if necessary.  However, at least you know where you stand if Della Valle did an x-ray immediately after the surgery.
