'How to Run with a Hip Replacement' eBook
« on: June 20, 2013, 06:45:04 AM »
Hi all, I love this website. I have had Birmingham resurfacing right side and am running long hilly trails again. The encouragement and tips from you guys has been fantastic and allowed me to overcome the DON'T RUN advice from many quarters.
I've written an eBook which I'd like some feedback on, 'How to Run with a Hip Replacement'. I wish it was around when I needed it and I hope it will help a few runners through rehab. I've chucked it on Amazon for now. I've pointed runners to this website in the Resources section at the back of the book.
Cheers!

Looks like a great book.  I tried to add the url in your post, but since you are new, I can't.  New members must make at least 5 posts before adding live urls.

So  here is the url to Amazon and the Running Book

Thanks Pat, I wondered why I couldn't add the URL. I may be new to posting but I've been an avid Surface Hippy reader for years :) The posts have been inspirational and helped me realise that long distance trail running IS indeed possible on my new hip.

Cheers

Hi Arrojo, that's a good question.
Initially I started blogging running tips for people who have undergone resurfacing but received feedback from the wider hip replacement runner community.

After running with a couple of people who had total hip replacements I realised that they also needed to change the way they were running if they wanted to get the most out of their hips. So I widened my scope and am glad I did because I've received feedback from grateful THR runners.
Cheers, and congratulations on running the Wachusett Mountain road race. Love it.

Without reading the book yet, my guess is that one needs to adopt a front strike or mid-front strike?

Hi Manofword.
You are onto it. Adopting a hip-friendly running style is not just about moving from a heel-strike to fore-foot landing, but yes, many hippies don't make the connection and as a result struggle with hip pain.
Cheers, and good luck with the hip.
