BHR #2, here I come
« on: October 06, 2013, 02:09:55 PM »
All packed to travel to Birmingham tomorrow (3.5 hr trip). I am required at the hospital for a couple of hours to be marked up etc - if they did operate on the wrong leg, they would be surprised to find a 14 year old BHR already there!

Then to a hotel for the night and report on Tuesday for surgery. Currently the briefing is to be there at 7:15 am having been nil by mouth since 3am. Apparently I am sixth, last, on the list so I hope they might change that tomorrow to a later breakfast and report time.

I took care to book a hotel where the breakfast was not included in the price. It would be even worse not to be allowed a breakfast WHEN YOU HAVE PAID FOR IT!

Should be home on Friday with a shiny new hip joint. Fingers, toes and eyes crossed.

So you're having a genuine Birmingham resurfacing  ;)
(Assuming that this is Birmingham, England and not Birmingham, Alabama.... ) Treat yourself to a supper at a nice restaurant tonight.
Let us know how it goes.

Oldsoccerplayer. It is Birmingham UK, so yes it's the genuine article. I have been researching a decent restaurant in Birmingham for tomorrow evening.

Whyme. You are right about the previous experience - I just hope it's as successful as the other one was.

Ready to get this done now. Thanks for the good wishes.

Positive news on that 14 year old hip, Granton!  You must be doing something right!  Any insights on longevity?

We'll all be thinking of you today - Good luck!

I'm right behind you - October 17th and will be a bi-lateral as well!

All going well. New joint was fitted yesterday. The pain is being well managed.

I had a lot of sleep last night and also during the day today, but have also had two sessions with the physiotherapist including a walk out of my room into the corridor. Feels fine, better than I remember the last one (or it may be that I am more confident).

Thanks for all your good wishes.

Mr McMinn did six BHRs yesterday - for all of us it was our second. A first for him.

Well, the second day post-op I found I could do a lot that was not possible on the first day. I am also no longer attached to anything. They have started to slow down on the painkillers and, at rest I am without pain.

I have done quite a lot of exercise today, got a warning from the PTs not to overdo it and this evening I feel somewhat sore.

Hoping to go home tomorrow, if the scans look OK.

Well done that man and glad to hear it all went well!

Think my other one is coming up in the next 12 months or so it's showing the familiar signs so it's really encouraging to read stories like this!

Good luck and speedy recovery  8)

Got home yesterday as scheduled and into the routine - exercises, walks, drugs.

I am feeling very optimistic about this. The hip feels great.

I intended to go out for a very short walk and ended up going to look at the sea (about 200 yards away) and back. Feels absolutely fine. This is four days post-op.

I can't imagine I will have anything interesting to say about me for a while. Thanks for all the help and encouragement. I will try to reciprocate.
