Dental Work and Resurfacing?
« on: April 25, 2014, 08:24:06 PM »
I'm a little over 5 weeks Post op and I am having an issue with one of my crowns.  I see in my paperwork it says not to have dental work until after 3 months from surgery and even then give notice to my dentist of my BHR.  Anybody encounter a similar issue?

My surgeon told me if I had to do any dental work within the first 6 months, make sure to be given antibiotics. After 6 months, only if there is infection.
There have been a lot of posts on this, if you do a search.

I'm an a "forever" order of antibiotics before any dental procedure.

I take four pills an hour before the work is done.

I think it varies by surgeon, mine believes in it.

I have a crown that fell off my tooth Friday night. My dentist was able to get me in this morning to see if it could be put back on. She asked what my surgeon recommended before any dental work and I  told her he didn't require I take antibiotics.

She would not do any work regardless so she offered me four Amoxicillin right on the spot. I took them and she put the crown back perfectly.

Last week, I had my first dental appointment since my surgery in December. My dentist's office called to confirm my appointment and to remind me to "premedicate". My surgeon wrote the initial prescription, but as I checked out I was given a prescription for my next appointment by the dentist. I am to take the amoxicillin one hour prior to the treatment for the next 2 yrs.

It was my dentist that recommended antibiotic proflaxis before each visit. This includes all procedures from cleanings to fillings and surgery.
