Ballroom Dancing competitor how long to wait.
« on: January 05, 2015, 01:45:44 AM »
Hi.  New to this, and recently had my HR done on 16 December 2014 in Brisbane Aust, with Prof Weinrauch.  Feeling well and getting stronger every day.  Now up to day 20 and really not using crutches much but remembering to take it slow and listen to the body.

I would like to thank every one who has posted here as their information and personal experiences really helped in feeling confident with my decision to go ahead. It really was great.

My wife and I are competitive dancers and I realise not many people realise how physically demanding this can be.  But was wondering if any one has any idea how long it should take to get back to good level of movement and agility.

Thanks for your post and good luck.

I took ballroom dancing and can only imagine how athletic professions dancers are.

Send me a short story and photo when you get back on the floor again.

I will post it here http://surfacehippy.info/hipresurfacing/athletes-stories where there are a couple ballet dancers.

Good Luck!

I have never dreamed of doing ballroom dancing, I'm probably one of the most uncoordinated people you would ever meet!
I'll assume that the schedule for the dancing is similar to returning to any kind of intense physical activity; it depends very much on the individual and the surgeons' protocols. For example, I was allowed to go back to soccer after 6 months, so that might be a 'ball park' figure, but the best resource for that kind of recommendation is your surgeon. Whatever you do go slowly (should I say take it one step at a time  ;) ) and don't try to do too much too soon.
Hope this helps.

Hi, took me a while to get back.  Shortly after the first post, 4 weeks post op, loss strength in the operated leg, severe groin pain and developed temperature 39.2(c).  Yep made the 1percent who get an infection.  Back to hospital, my surgeon treated very aggressively wash out, iv antibiotics.  Week in hospital then home with a picc line and 24hr antibiotics with a pump.  Bloods came good and show no infection, hope is that it is only surface.  I am on oral antibiotics 4 times a day for the next little while and remain positive moving forward.  My surgeon has been excellent and has been seeing me often in tandem with infectious diseases specialist.  I was off crutches 2days after the wash out and am walking and exercising without pain every day.  I even had half a competition dance lesson last Friday but taking this easy as is quite demanding.  My only concern is that the wound seems to be taking some time to heal.  5 weeks since wash out and wound still leaching fluid from area where drain was and in the last few days some blood with it.  Just wondering if anyone had similar experience with the wound healing.  I have heamachromotosis and this can slow, down the healing, but no temperature or pain and feel better and stronger than I did before the operation. :)
