First thousand miles
« on: June 15, 2015, 05:55:01 PM »
Tomorrow is 30 weeks since surgery, today I hit 1000 miles of walking, biking and running - just under 400 miles on the bike, just over 600 miles on foot, mainly walking. Longest ride 71 miles, longest walk 21 miles, longest run 10.4 miles. Approximately 1.3 million cycles of the new joint by my rough calculation. All good!

Working towards sub-24 minute 5km, maybe a half-marathon in October and a 100 mile bike ride before too long.
Plus climbing to a decent standard on gritstone (E1/2). Will keep in touch!

Glad to here you're doing well, petemeads! I'm doing 10 to 20 miles per week (no set distance), some with backpack and climbing gear to get to climbs and the rest hiking (and a little jogging) just for exercise and enjoyment. So far, both the THR and the HR are doing their jobs like champs.

Keep us informed!

Awesome!  I love hearing how well people are running after hip resurfacing.  :)  Enjoy!

Update at 9 months/39 weeks - 817 miles on foot, 533 on the bike. 5km time down to 23:45 but not run further than 10.4 miles yet.

Interval training is now back on the menu, 6x400 metres at a speed I once averaged over a marathon! It might be slow but it is working to improve my 5k time.

Thinking about the local 10 mile race in September which I did six years ago and which became the beginning of my later-life racing career and lead to a couple of sub-99 minute half-marathons. Not worried about the BHR but my natural hip would resent the abuse I suspect...

Brilliant Pete! What is also fantastic is that your lesser known UK surgeon is clearly supportive of HR and his excellent skills have facilitated your full return to sporting achievements and aspirations! Keep up the good work!
