Running 6 months post op
« on: October 13, 2018, 08:41:51 AM »
Dear Friends,

I had my right hip resurfaced by Dr Gross on April 9, 2018.  I was hoping to begin slowly running after 6 months but unfortunately I am not able to do so yet.  I have no joint pain and my range of motion is excellent however when I begin running, after 3-4 minutes at a relaxed pace, I begin to experience a dull ache on the outside of my hip which sometimes radiates down along my IT band and at other times radiates around my groin area.  I have no pain when walking only when beginning to run.  Anyone else experience this?  If so, any suggestions for exercises that I can do to work on strengthening the hip to allow me to run?  Thanks!

My suggestion is to give it more time.

Have you tried the usual fixes? ART/myofasial massage? Consulted with a good PT?

Was there anything unusual about this hip?

Thanks Blinky!  I have not tried those but I will.

According to Dr Gross the hip was normal just worn out.

I will take more time although it's hard. Just wanted a bit of reassurance that it's normal to not be running yet.
