I've been reading about it the last few years and I know of a couple of groups doing it, one of them is in Atlanta.

The problem with stem cell for hips is if the joint space is limited due to OS then you won't get a very good result.

It's still in it's infant stages right now but look for it in the future, maybe 5-10 years, right now it's a common procedure in dogs and it seems to be pretty successful.

If you are having bad problems right now, I would not wait IMHO.

I tried it on my first hip and went to what I perceived to be the most advanced stem cell center in the US. It took me from limping on a sore hip to needing to be on crutches full time with severe pain. A few months later as it was continuing to get worse, I had my resurfacing which has worked out very well. Believe it or not, I did just try a less sophisticated version on my other hip as it is becoming a problem. Really no change from this attempt. Just my experience.

What's known is that it will cost you $4000+ travel expenses out of pocket and isn't covered by insurance.

We have a local vet http://animalgeneral.net/ who has done lots of stem cell transplants on dogs without great success, but I guess that technology has yet to transfer over to humans.

Dr. Mike has been traveling all over the world doing his stem cell treatments.
