Leg Pain

Both of my hips have been resurfaced. The left in 2000 and the right in 2004. Both because of Avascular Necrosis.
I had a good 10 years out of the left side but in 2010 I developed a pain in the left thigh which begins in the front of the thigh, a little above the knee, after I have walked for about 25 minutes. If I continue walking after 40 minutes the whole thigh from the knee up to the hip is extremely painful, forcing me to stop. It is some hours before I recover.
The situation is clouded because I have 2 degenerative discs in my lower back which came to light when I saw my hip surgeon. After finding no indications visible in x-rays of any problems with my hips he referred me to a back specialist. His opinion is that my back just shows wear and tear typical of my age and could not possibly cause the pain in my leg as I describe it.
He has just referred me back to my hip surgeon!
Do my symptoms ring any bells with anyone?
No health care professional I have spoken to seems to have any knowledge or experience of what it could be  :(
By the way, although I can't remember the medical term for it at the moment, vascular issues have been ruled out.

Hi, Sorry to hear you're having issues after a good run. If the X-Rays look good, why not get a second opinion on them, just to make certain?

There are doctors on this site who are highly experienced, who will look at your xrays or other scans and give you their opinion without charge. You can email them the information, to cut down on the hassle of this consultation.

This would help ease your mind about the state of the hip(s) or point to a problem. Either way you'd know where you stand.

Hopefully there are no hip issues and you can go on from there.

Ask your doctor to take a look at the knee. I've had five surgeries on my right knee and no doubt I have had referred pain in the thigh before. He/she should focus on the patellofemoral region for chondral defects. Your knee cap rubs right on the femur and could cause that pain you are talking about. That condition will also affect the muscles and tissues where you describe.
