It took me maybe 3 weeks before I could sleep on my side with 2 pillows between my knees. One pillow took even longer, and I still get sore like that after 8 weeks!

Do you put pillows behind your knees when you sleep on your back? That was the only way I could tolerate sleeping on my back at all, and yep, still didn't last all night!

Do you take tylenol before bed? I found it helpful for controlling the aches I'd get in bed...

One other recommendation: I bought a "Pinzon Basics" body pillow from amazon. It's long and thick and works really well initially for helping you to lie on your side.

Thanks i will check out pillow

Snowbound

I had both hips done at the same time and I'm not a back sleeper so sleep was one of my biggest issues. I alternated between sleeping on the bed and on the recliner switching about every 3 hours.

On the bed I put pillows under my knees and that helped a lot. I slowly worked my way to sleeping on my side as pain allowed. In addition to the pillows under the knees I started propping a pillow under my back and buttocks on one side so it would tilt my body the other way.

I recall it being allowed (i.e. no damage would be done) if you put pillows between knees, but being told it would be uncomfortable.

I am such a wuss I didn't even try until six weeks out. It was uncomfortable even then, but was bearable.
