I slowly ran 13 miles today in a time of 2.17.45. Amazingingly my right hip resurfacing was perfect with NO issues at all! In fact it felt better than my original, left hip! That's 22 mins faster than last week so hopefully this means I can forge ahead and increase my training.

Impressive!  My surgeon said I wont be able to run for 1yr after surgery so I'm pleasantly surprised to hear your progress.  Unfortunately I have to wait 12 more weeks for my surgery but hey...silver linings!  Congrats again!

Thank you for your response! I too have been concerned that I may be doing too much too soon however, I have been taking it really easy. Most Consultants stipulate 6 months before running. We are all different, I have been running 50 to 70 miles per week for more than 3 decades so I assume my body sees it as normal! I encountered more problems when walking during recovery as I was not used to it! I will continue to run and increase my pace gradually until I achieve sub 2 hours for a half marathon in training. Only then will I consider racing pace for the full distance. I wish you all the best for your operation, it's a fantastic procedure if performed correctly!

Congratulations!  It's great to read another rapid recovery story!  I too have been pushing the envelope by skiing all of the mountain beginning at 3 months when most Drs recommend waiting 6 months or even 1 year.  I've done everything but skiing off a jump or cliff with no issues at 4 months, 1 week post-op!

Hi Jim
Thanks for sharing your story and updates. I am glad things are going so well for you.  There have been some athletes that have pushed their recovery and return to their sports more quickly than others.  I would only mention that you don't overdo things too much without talking with your surgeon. Even though you feel great, your body is still healing. You can't push your body to heal. We all do heal differently with different timelines. I would still be more conservative in your running, at least for awhile.  You definitely don't want to have a set back.
I wish you the very best and look forward to many wonderful updates.

Thank you Pat for taking the time to reply. I will indeed take it easy and not rush into full training nor racing until at least 6 months have passed. The new hip just feels so good and it is the other hip and lower back that appear to be taking time to recover. Once again thank you! Jim

Stevel, thank you for replying however, I have no clue about Ski-ing and all lol!

Hi Jim,  Well, we are both athletic 60 somethings experiencing a rapid recovery especially between 3 months and 6 months post-op!
