Hey folks, checking in.

It's my ten year anniversary for my first hip resurfacing.  My second was done on November 29th of the same year, 2010.

I am thankful about the last ten years, and give great love and respect to Pat, whose efforts on this site really supported me on the path to and early after my surgeries.

The hips are in great shape, despite my activities.

A few weeks into covid working from home, I started feeling sciatic pain on my right leg. I worried at first that it may be my hip(s), but went to see my surgeon. The x rays came back perfect, no anomalies and such.

Also had metals measured, and although there's a slight rise from before, they are well below any limits.

So the progression has gone :  First test - Chromium 3.4, Cobalt 3.1, After four years - Chromium 1.7, Cobalt 1.1 , after nine years - Cobalt 1.0, the current readings were Cobalt 2.8, Chromium 1.2.

Having both hips done and the bar being to stay under 7, it is very good news.

All in all very happy, but in investigating the sciatic pain, they found a slight bulge from my lumbar region, so I'm doing physical therapy and maybe contemplating day surgery to shave off part of the bulge. Apparently it's routine.

The injury I think came from long ago, just was kept at bay by exercise and stretching. Working from home in this era cuts down the opportunities to do that, so I think that is affecting this.

Funny that I immediately wanted the hips cleared as possible culprits, and they are just fine.

Anyways - a reach out to rookie, veteran and prospective hippies - keep going, if we can avoid issues, this has been a great and long lived solution to the pain.

Wow, this is great news.  Glad to see you're still around and doing mostly well.  I had mine done 9 years ago and now it's time to have my left done.  UGH.  I just made my consultation for next Tuesday.  I have similar experience.  Aside from some clicking and such my hip has been doing well.

Thanks Pete, it's been a real joy not to have that pain. Good luck on the second - I know that once my second was done, it was a great relief, felt like the path was fully cleared.

Thanks Pat, will do. I drop in periodically, the hips are in fine shape.

I know there's new technologies with ceramic and all, but for a decade, I've been riding on these hips and sailing through life. If anyone is waiting, find a good, trustworthy surgeon and go for it.

Sorry about the mixed metaphors there.
