Hello All,

This is a bit off topic for the majority here with resurfacing.  A friend will need a new hip and HR is not an option.  Small framed woman, 76 years old, OA requires surgery, total replacement with duo-mobility device.  5 years ago she had a very difficult surgery to resolve her scoliosis and made a good recovery but the hip, which should have been addressed first and wasn't is now needing replacement.  Her surgeon has apprised her that the earlier surgery poses additional risks and that the study of the impact these surgeries have on each other is a relatively new orthopedic discussion of which he is aware and informed.

My intent in this post is to gather whatever encouraging experiences others might share regarding hip surgery after serious back surgery.  I'm one of her support people and would like to present her with positive outcomes to bolster her confidence in light of the statistical odds she faces.  Obviously any experience you'd like to relate need not match, and less than positive outcomes would be welcome to learn from as well.

Thanks in advance.

I don't have anything to add to this, but hopefully my reply will put this topic back up top in the feed.......

Thanks for the bump.  My friend is scheduled for mid-June so a few weeks to get prepped- recovery tools, recliner, icing routine and some early times support for the first week or so.  It's an unusual set of conditions to deal with but there might be some forum members with a comparable history.

I wish I had something useful to contribute, but alas, I don’t. All I can do is send good wishes to your friend, and give you a big thumbs up for doing your best to help.  Good friends are worth more than their weight in anything!
