I'm having my hip done in about a month.  Working out has become harder and my appetite has stayed the same..... I'm not obese... Just average. I'm about 5'9" and weigh around 190.  When I was working out more I was about 10 lbs lighter and more toned.... I wondered if bc of being more sore after surgery, you moved around less and gained weight, or if the process curbed your appetite and maybe you lost weight?

If I forced myself to work out and watched what I ate i could probably knock off a few pounds vetoer my surgery.. I just wondered if most of you found that post op you dropped weight or put it on?

Thanks
Sean

I stayed pretty much the same before during and after. It's worth remembering that basal metabolism uses 2/3 of energy consumption anyway, when you exercise you most probably eat more even unconsciously.

I'm 6'1", and prior to surgery, clocked in between 230-235.   While I have been relatively active prior to by hip going bad, my level of activity dropped significantly due to pain.

I dropped 20-25 lbs after surgery (I think it was about a month after surgery that I stepped on a scale), and now sit at 210 lbs...

For me, while I think that my appetite was curbed somewhat, the fact that the fridge was at the top of a flight of stairs from where I was recuperating helped greatly.  :P

I'm not planning on having this operation act as some sort of forced weight loss program....I was actually more worried that sitting would make me gain more weight, and wondered if maybe in the last month....before my surgery, if I should do some last minute workouts to burn off a few pounds.....  I don't want to get "better"and be 25 lbs more!

Wish me luck...I'm in the home stretch.... Only a few weeks to go!

I gained a few pounds right after surgery due to swelling I would guess but it was gone within a couple of weeks. Once you get moving you don't want to be sitting around and you need to be careful not to over do it.

I recommend static cycling, squats and isometrics, will improve recovery time greatly.

well i hit the g ym today!  you know that "i don't want to go" feeling you have after you've been out of the routine a while... well i had that.. but once i was there and doing it, it felt good.  i'm no powerhouse, but I can do upperbody stuff pain free... and it felt good to stretch out my muscles.  I managed about 20 min on the stairmaster...  felt good.

i hope to hit the gym a few times a week between now and my surgery and hopefully be in better shape..so my body will be as ready as it can be!!
