Surgery Order.....is it correct?

I just received my surgery order today.....from Dr. Gross to Providence Northeast Hospital, as many here have.

One thing scares me, and I hope it is my ignorance of medical terminology.  It says:

715.35  Osteoarthrosis, localized, not specified whether primary or secondary, pelvic region and thigh

- TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY
    Blah...blah....blah......etc.

Okay.............I added the "Blah...blah...blah), but it DOES say "TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY".  So......am I confusing the everyday terms used here (Hip Resufacing vs. Total Hip) with the actual, medical terms?  OR, is this a mistake on my surgical order.  I do NOT want the wrong thing done........

Confused,

Andy

Same, means resurfacing, Andy.  Don't worry.  It's the same words on the insurance codes.  You're getting the right stuff from Dr. Gross.  Good Luck, you're with one of the best!

Hello Andy!

You got me curious, so I got my "file" out and found lots of blah...blah...blah as well.  Then appeared "RIGHT HIP RESURFACING ARTHROPLASTY"!  Different surgeon and different hospital, but does make you wonder...a quick phone call would put your mind at ease!

Congratulations by the way!

One thing scares me
I wonder if its insurance related to avoid any 'resurfacing' issues with billing.

FYI, during the day of your surgery.... all the way up to the point that you fall asleep from the drugs... everyone that you deal with in the O.R. will ask you your name, why you are there, and which hip.... over and over.  They make darn sure that they are doing the correct procedure on the correct side.

Good luck, you are in good hands.  I'm 10 months out.  Just got home from playing 2 hours of basketball.  Everything hurts but my hip!

I am almost positive my surgery orders said the exact same thing.  It through me a bit so I asked just before surgery.  I suspect it has to do with what the insurance calls it.

Best wishes.

Thanks everyone.  I'll bet the insurance thing is correct.  But, since all these surgeons do BOTH, it still is a bit off-putting.  I have put a question in to Dr. Gross' office.  Thanks all.

Mine said the same!  After surgery though my report said "arthritis secondary to hip dysplasia". (which was expected).  As others have said, everything at Providence went like clockwork.  They have the system down.  They get you in, get you ready, get you done and get you ready to go home!  Are you in or out of state.  I am from Columbia.
Right hip resurfacing with Dr. Gross on 12/5/11!

I live in Georgia.....a northeast Atlanta suburb.  It will be about a 3 hour drive for me to Columbia.  Shouldn't be too bad of a drive.  You're lucky being so close.  If there are any issues, he's right there.
