Not trying to be the butt of the joke

Hi all,
This may seem like a weird question but I was looking at my new scars which by the way look like a shark grabbed me while floating in the ocean on holiday and my wife kindly noticed that it really looks like my glutes have sufferred immensely since surgery. I know that they cut some of the smaller muscle groups while using the posterior approach, however when I try and clinch (sorry for the description and not for any other reason than to recruit that muscle group) I find that the muscles kind of quiver to the point that it feels quite uncomfortable. So anyone else having a problem with their butt - sorry to be so blunt!!

Mike, you'll find quite a few of us here have this issue. Get you PT to give you exercises that target strengthening the area.
I also had butt spasms after my op which didn't help, my whole leg locked up and couldn't move a muscle for an hour (twice this happend), all because I over did it. Things are getting much better as I do regular pool sessions & have exercises that target these weaker areas.
Take it easy & slowly build back up.

Hello Mikebaker!

I didn't experience the quivering posterior, but found my operative leg would shake uncontrollably if I tried to stretch it out fully (as if I were trying to touch the wall with my extended foot type of stretching)!  My physical therapist had some name for the phenomenon and indicated it was a normal muscle reaction.  It doesn't happen anymore and I'm 11 weeks post-op.

As far as the "butt" specifically...even at 55, I've been complemented on my "tight ass" so maybe there's not enough back there to set in motion with a quiver!?  As Kiwi indicates, take it easy and I'm sure you'll find it better with time!

Greetings Mslendzion!

Your bad leg or both?  Or are both of your hips problematic?

Take care, Bruce

P.S.-I guess I meant "Tight Butt"!  Tight Ass would mean I'm not particularly generous...right!?

I had few PT sessions in the hospital and was  given a around 10 exercises to do at home.  One of them involves squeezing the butt cheeks lying down.  I have been doing it religiously for the last 5 weeks and at this point I feel like I  could be cracking nuts with my rear end it feels so strong.

So far only one bad hip and it was with that one. I also sometimes get a Charlie horses at night on the bad side while sleeping.

LOL - I am looking into some Butt implants. I am squatting, using hack press, lunges and nothing is helping my butt. Quads are looking good but my ass is a travesty.
