Hi again Elle,

I'm pleased to hear your pain has lessened! I'm on a new prescription of pills - Targinact 40g twice a day. I don't know if it's doing anything other than making me sleepy!

I too now go to a chiropractor, who if nothing else, has loosened my lower spine up (he discovered I have an extra lower vertebrae - eek!) and he's working on my hip pain now which will take some time, 31 years of damage, but I'm positive. He's at least been more help than any surgeon i've seen!

Welcome back to life.

Hi I'm a new member to the site - so thanks to everyone's posts, so informative.

Your subject caught my eye as I've recently had to up my pain killers - my op is due in June 2012.  I've been prescribed Tramadol which I found good for the pain but as a side effect also made me drowsy the following day, just need to be careful when you use it.  Co-codamol and Naproxen during the day.

Hi KA

Welcome to Hip Talk.  I am sorry to hear you have to wait until June for your surgery.  That is a long time. l Hopefully, you will still be able to do few things until your surgery.

I see you are in the UK.  Who is your surgeon going to be?  Are you getting  a BHR?

Just wondering.

I hope the folks here will help you get thru until surgery.  We will look forward to reading your story after your surgery, too.

Hi Pat

I'm having my surgery at Morriston Hospital in South Wales with Mr Woodnutt. He comes well recommended.

Finding the site really useful - and so much information.

Thanks again

Hi Many' (Splendors to come, I promise!),

B.O.A TM, I was on a 100mg Fentanyl Patch and took up to eight Dilaudid8mg per day.  I couldn't walk one step, and I was confined to a hospital bed in my living room for 2 1/2 years.  I also took Ambien10mg, which did not work a lick.

Since circa 2009, my situation was a little different as I had a rare form of bilateral bone on bone, end stage OA that was located not only in the most painful spot possible, but it was in the blind spots of ALL the various films and tests done through dozens of surgeons over that time period.

Post op has been a beautiful study in contrast to B.O.A. TM!  Now, NO Fentanyl Patch at all!  So far, I have weaned off to three Dilaudid8mg/day and three 7.5 Norcos (same thing as a Vicodin), and I'm hoping to be off all narcotics by April.  Also, I no longer take Ambien, as I've found in the short term Valium5mg to be effective enough that sometimes I get seven hours of sleep!  Throughout the whole shebang, starting back in 2009, I've also found it necessary to take Promethazine; a strong anti nausea medication, Docusate; a stool softener, and quite regular enemas; yuck!

By all means, work with your PT AND a pain management physician to get your pre op agony under control, but after your hip resurfacing your need for narcotics will drop off drastically and quickly!!

Good Luck and Godspeed to Pain Relief and Surgical Remedy,
