Today is my 6 year annniversary of my BHR surgery with Dr. De Smet in Belgium in 2006.  I have not had any problems with my hip at all.  Had several hard falls which luckily did not hurt me or the hip.

I did not have health insurance and could not afford surgery in the US.  Also the FDA had not approved the BHR at the time I needed surgery.  I wanted to use one of the most experienced hip resurfacing surgeons, so I chose Dr. De Smet.  It cost my and my ex $18,000 for the airfare, hotel and all medical costs.  It was a pretty good deal.  I put it on my credit card and felt it was the best financial investment I have ever made.

I started the Surface Hippy website before I had my surgery to help others learn about hip resurfacing.  It officially started on 12/11/2005 and will be 7 years old in December.

Hi Lyn, how are things going? Did you decide on Dr. Gross?

Congrats Pat and thanks for all you do on this site.   Your $18,000 was a bargain compared to my 85,000 at the Cleveland Clinic and that did not include the gas to drive me there and back from Akron.
