I snuck in 7 minutes on the treadmill

I'm feeling very good with the workouts I'm doing now and I see Dr Marwin for my 6 month check-up next week so yesterday at the gym I snuck over from the elyptical to the treadmill.  I figure that I have to teach my legs how to run again and the treadmill is probably the best place to learn.  It took 2 minutes to get to 12 minute pace, then I ''ran'' for 2 minutes.  It felt pretty clunky.  2 minutes walking then 2 minutes at 10 minute pace, it felt a little better.  2 minutes walking then 2 minutes at 9:30 pace, it felt so good I did another minute and it felt great.  Then 4 minutes walking to cool down.

I've got to tell you, those were the best 7 minutes of this whole recovery!

Good place to start Wood...
You can hang on and stop if you need to.
The road is a completely different feel than the TM though.
Remember the 10% incremental rule, a good guideline for hippies as well as all.
Congrats.

It's how I started, Woody. Still doing walking and running, with longer running stretches over a 15-20 minute period. As a runner, though I'm a better martial artist  ::) .

With 2 minutes rest.

It really felt great.  I warmed up on the elyptical, then the treadmill, then weights.  It works out nicely at the gym because I don't have the pressure to do more.  It's only part of the workout.  Slowly I'll keep building it back up.

I'm coming back and I'm feeling great!

That's awesome.  My return to running was less than stellar, but I'm glad you're feelin' it.  Keep it up!

Question for people - which is a softer surface for running - treadmill, grass or track?  How would you rank them.  Just thinking ahead...

It's been a while since I have been to the track and they are all different but I would rate them from softest to firmest as:

grass, treadmill, track

all are much better than the road.

I think I'd rate them treadmill as the softest and the track and grass are pretty similar. I suppose it depends on the track and the make up of the ground under the grass. I think most of the ground I've run on in the past was harder than the tracks I've run on so I'd say treadmill track grass.
