Hi George,

I don't have any advice but I'd like to learn from your experience.  Do you mind sharing when your surgery was done and what type of implant you got?  I'm one month out from surgery and love to hear about recovery stories ( good or bad ).

Someone here will chime in but I've read enough to know that your Drs advice will trump anything your read here.

I concur that you should follow your surgeons recovery protocols.  They differ wildly from surgeon to surgeon, and it might depend on the device, the fixation method (cemented vs. bone-ingrowth), surgical approach (posterior vs. anterior vs. anterio-lateral) (sp?). 

Dr. Gross was my surgeon, and he is very conservative in the recover period.  He would tell you NOT do get on the bike for the first six weeks.  Until then, only the exercises he recommends and walking, and even then the walking is limited for the first six weeks.

Other surgeons have their patients at physical therapy almost immediately.  So, stick with your surgeon's guidelines.  Best of luck to you!
