Does anyone have thoughts regarding the two options?  Narrowing down to one (West Coast) or other (South Carolina).  Based on how much discomfort currently in; I am confident either will provide excellent results.  Trying to reflect on long term.  I am active, marathon runner (not so much now - more like a shuffler) and want to get back.  The Biomet can be converted, if necessary to THR in future - retain acetabulum insert;  not sure about the other Synovo system.

Thanks

Danlalane

With either of these surgeons or devices there is a risk that long distance running may not be possible. Are you tall/big boned? My surgeon said that seems to make a difference, though it is a theory and nothing is conclusive. If you aren't already taking some I recommend taking vegan calcium to improve bone density. According to Dr. Gross dairy actually reduces bone density as does drinking any alcohol.

Many posters on this board have have had their resurfacings performed by Dr. Gross or Dr. Pritchett (myself included, Dr. P). The overwhelming majority of their patients have been happy with the results (myself included). A number of them have been runners (not my thing). While most have been able to get back to running, there are a small number who aren't able to. So far as I can tell the device doesn't make a statistical difference for this. I know Dr. Pritchett does revision surgeries. Resurfacings can be revised to THRs, although this shouldn't be necessary. I am certain the answer to your question is yes. However, I'm not the expert. I suggest sending an email to Dr. P or his assistant Susan with your specific questions regarding potential eventual revision outcomes with the Synovo device. At 2 and 7 (?) years both of my Synovos are working just fine.

Again, both surgeons are excellent. You won't go wrong with either one. After consulting with them I suggest going with the one that makes you most comfortable, and/or the one that accepts your insurance.
