LH resurfaced by Dr. Gross and now 4 months post-op. I have been doing his stretching and strengthening routine as prescribed. Additionally, I have been doing PT twice weekly since 4 weeks post op. My physical therapist has tested my strength and flexibility and told me that my LH is as good as my RH. So at what point do you stop the stretching and exercises from Dr. Gross? Also, I am an avid bike rider and getting ready to start riding in my neighborhood.

i had my rh done by dr gross in feb 22 and got strength and rom back in about same timeframe and didn't remain diligent beyond that.  have recently started a stretching protocol every morning and doing yoga to increase rom and simply be smart.   pt is saw at ~15 months post-op said strength was great but that biggest concern would be tightness leading to other issues.  trying to be a rule follower.  best of luck

I did the full 6 months and then some because I didn't want to risk screwing it up.  But I was also riding a spin bike, swimming, and aqua running.  So that kept me motivated and from getting bored.  I can't remember if that was "allowed" or not.

Hi 😀. I’m ten months post op and just been on a 20 mile road bike ride with my dad (Im 54 hes 78). I did the same in January, which was 3 months post op.

I dilligently did all the exercises at least twice, sometimes more, every day for 2 months. When I met the surgeon at 6 weeks he said

“You can start jogging, but gently”. I nearly fell off the seat and the PT I saw next day warned me off that for months.

So there seems a big difference in what different surgeons say to different patients. I don’t know why he said that to me, except he knew I am (was, maybe will be again) a runner.

I think it really helped doing them. Its hard to say why, I just think it did.. I mean we are basically deboned and then stitched up, theres alot of ‘cut meat’ there that needs to heal.

I have been quite patient and only walked (alot), been swimming, and just generally stretched alot when I could. Over time I feel my ROM has slowly, slowly improved.  I have a manual job so am often very busy all day on my feet, lifting/ twisting / pulling ….just like a gym session 🙈

I am 8 months post op and am still going to the physical therapist once a month.  I am more diligent about my stretching on this second hip than the first 12 years ago.  I think I quit stretching too early last time which affects my range of motion on that side.  My strength definitely came back on that side but I don't think I was as good with the smaller muscles.  I am definitely spending more time getting full range of motion and strengthening the smaller muscles.  My "old" BHR is also benefitting.

Best wishes.
