Hi all!
I am Sergio, Spanish 38 yo guy with advanced OA in both my hips diagnosed in 2018.
My entire life I have been very active, mostly by playing football (almost reached professional level) and other sports like tennis, paddle, ski, etc.
In 2018 the doctor who diagnosed me with the CAM impingement and OA recommended me to stop playing impact sports and try to postpone the hips replacements as long as possible. I did what he told me.
In 2021, I went to Barcelona to visit a very well known doctor (Manel Ribas) who had resurfaced the hip of Aduritz, a Spanish football player who quit football due to age (39) and a bad hip (the one resurfaced). He already recommended to resurface both my hips (one at a time). However, I was not ready for it.
I started a program (FAI Fix), but it did not work (could also be due to my lack of dedication to stretching tbh). My OA is getting worse and a couple of months ago I played a tennis game (very amateur) and was 2 weeks with pain in the hip, almost limping.
Currently, if I do nothing but my daily life (taking care of my 2 young kids and biking around Frankfurt for taking them to kindergarten plus going to work always by bike) generally I feel no pain.
I know there is a lot of information and people with the same doubts as me, however, I am disclosing my story so you can maybe give me strength to go through the process. Yesterday, I had a zoom meeting with Dr. De Smet and he recommended me to go through bilateral HR. Apparently he has many international patients and I would be set to go with them for surgery.
I explained Dr de Smet that in order to get ready (mind) for surgery I was going to start playing again football and then given that my hips will hurt, it will be easier to take the decision.
What do you guys think?
Many thanks for all your support. It has been such a great discovery this forum and website.

Hi.

It might be worth reading my posts and peoples’ responses as I am the same age as you and has similar thoughts/challenges.

I had my right hip operated on last Monday, so too early to give you post-recovery view of how things are, but I’ve not yet regretted the decision.
