Wondering if anyone had any idea of when they were able to do butterfly stretches or motions that involved high degrees of abduction. I'm able to do the abduction exercise my doctor assigned me, but butterfly stretches and groin stretches hurt immensely.

If this is normal, anything you would recommend to help is greatly appreciated!

How long ago was your surgery?  6 months post-op should be good to begin more advanced yoga moves, if OK’d by your surgeon.

Awesome, I'll check with him. Did you experience any flexibility issues?

You didn’t say how long since you had your surgery.  Time and patience are your best buddies when recovering from this.  It’s a lot of trauma.

Having femeroacetabular impingement, I was never able to sit lotus, or even crosslegged.  After I had my right hip resurfaced in January of ‘21, my goal was to sit under the Christmas tree crosslegged to open presents.  What a goal for a 56 year old, huh?  Well, box checked, no problem!  I was ecstatic!  Started at six months post-op with basic yoga poses (downward facing dog, tree pose, child’s pose (knees apart), runner’s pose, gate, warrior 1 and 2, triangle pose, then added Asian squat.  No yoga for another six months now until the 6-month mark as I had the left hip resurfaced last Monday.  I miss my morning routine, but I’ll follow Dr. Gross’s exercise regimen to the letter again.  There will be plenty of time for new yoga poses at the 6 month mark.
