Pain that feels like shin splints 5 days post op

I am 5 days post op on my right hip.  Pain on hip is being managed but I feel I have shin splints on the same side - is this normal? and/or has anyone else felt this?  What did you do to get relief?

My shins killed me for the first 6 weeks.  I went to a massage therapist at 3 weeks and had her work on them and my shoulders - this was largely all that she could/would do since I was somewhat limited to laying on my back.  That and the massage that comes with a pedicure helped a bit.  They still hurt more than they did before surgery but I attirbute that to just learning how to "walk" again.
