When to Fly Again

On a sheet of paper I received as part of my post-op training, it says I shouldn't fly for 6 weeks following the procedure for potential blood clotting reasons. That's fine, but I was wondering if this time frame seemed long or is standard. I'm a little confused over the number of people that fly to get their procedure done and then fly home within a few days. I fly a lot for work, but am happy to stay grounded for 6 weeks if that is the overall recommendation - but let me know if you have heard anything different in your experience.

If you need to fly, ask your surgeon about it.

When I flew home from Belgium at 9 days post op, I had to wear my TEDS and gave myself 2 shots of heprin in the stomach before flying to prevent blood clots.

If you must fly, I would check with your surgeon to find a solution.Don't rely on a general handout.  That's what your doctor is for - to answer questions.    I also got up and walked every 45 mintues during the 8 1/2 hour flight.
