Tying up shoe laces

Hi everyone,

New forum user here.

I am 6 weeks into recovery from LBHR (Ronan Treacy @ B'ham ROH). Very pleased with result of op. One concern though, in time, can I expect to get enough mobility back in new hip after stretches/re-hab. etc. to be able to reasonably reach down and do up shoe lace on affected side.

I haven't had any physio. just walked and done basic stretches as yet. (down to one stick now).

You'll get there...don't push it too much.  Try turning the operated knee out to the side to get more bend.  Slowly you'll get the rom to do it naturally.

Yes.  Some people have reported on here they were able to tie their shoes almost immediately after surgery if they didn't have the 90 degree restriction.  I was restricted for 6 weeks to not bend the hip past 90.  After that it has taken alot of stretching to get where I can tie shoelaces on the operated side.

I am actually now slightly more flexible than before surgery.  Keep in mind that I was not very flexible even before OA set in.
