Hi guys,

Do you thing that using SportElec or Compex would help to recover faster and not to loose too much muscles ?

In fact, could it be a solution to prevent loosing too much muscles in the leg before the surgery ? I already have left 3.5 cm in my left leg compare to the other because I am compensating as I my hip is really painful sometimes.
(I am trying to find a surgeon as I have decided recently to go for a surgery.)

Thanks a lot

Hello Brian! Welcome! ......and a good decision to go for surgery.
In my opinion, you dont need a "special" training for preparation. I even dont know what you are talking about SportElec or Compex. (I am absolut not sportiv and I am bilateral)
Be healthy! Take care of your nutrition and your soul. If you like to do something, train your arms and upper body strength.
I wish you all the best and that you reach the "other side" successfully.
..... I will find out

Hi,

SportElec or Compex are electrical stimulators.
Usually it is used for fat people or by physiotherapist to stimulate your muscles.

You can sit and read and use this tool and it will contract your muscles.

So, I was thinking it could help, at least after the surgery, to maintain your muscle mass even if you can't walk.

So do you think it would help ?
I m surprised no one mention this.

Thanks

Brian, you are talking about electro muscle stimulator devices. There are many on the market.
Most of what I have seen the devices used for is to supplement an athlete's recovery from injuries and sore muscles after strenuous workouts.

It probably won't hurt to try it to see if you can stop the muscle atrophy.

After surgery the surgeons want you exercising the new hip joint, not just stimulating muscle contraction.
So to me it seems like it will be extra work on top of the actual exercising you will have to do for recovery.
But, if you want to go above and beyond then check with your surgeon to see if this can be used to supplement the recovery protocols.

Hi,

Thanks for your response.
Yes, at first I was thinking using electro stimulation to exercise the muscles.
And then I thought that it could help not to loose to much muscles while you are recovering.

But you are right, the point is also to stimulate joint and electro stimulation will not do anything.

Thanks
