Has anyone had redness beneath the scar? I had surgery 16 weeks ago. It's worse today than when I first saw it last week. It is roughly 6 square inches. Rub it, and the skin changes back to its original color before turning red once more. When I walk, there is no pain. Can you please help?

Kay,

Scar healing is generally variable between people- skin tissue, sensitivity to bruising usual healing times.  I don't tend to bruise easily but I certainly had some residual redness around my surgical scars for all of 10-12 weeks iirc.  The wounds were fully healed but the discoloration lingered.  It was probably a good 6 months before I noticed they were fading to match surrounding skin tissue.  If the redness is only a cosmetic issue that needs more time to fade it should not be a worry.  If there were pain or it felt hot to the touch it might need attention and might be accompanied by an elevated body temp.  Absent those you most likely have nothing to be concerned about and patience would be the remedy.  It is always best to consult with your doctor-either primary or your surgeon as they would be the one that could answer your question best.  If it's distressing you, maybe check in with your doc just for the peace of mind.  Best wishes.
