Well  day 14 post op arrived today from a bi-lat resurf and my pt told me to try the cane. I couldn't believe how well I could get around without the crutches ;D. I was starting to get a small rash under the arms from the crutches, so I'm glad to do without them for now. I am just blown away that after two weeks from surgery things are going so well. I do most of my walking early in the day and afternoon(this is when I have most of my strenght). Late afternoons is when the tank runs out and I rest.I am not gonna push it to far after reading all your posts about taking it easy and slow. To all who are recovering I hope it is a smooth journey.

Aloha Wayne,

Way to go on the switch to the cane.  I too just switched from 2 crutch to 1 crutch to the use of a cane.  I evaluate what I am doing to my choice of what I use.  My PT said I am doing so good with the crutch that 2 is not even a question for me any more.  The cane is harder, but it does take a break on that rash that wants to grip ya!  I do use the crutch when I go for longer walks, and just lately I have tried no cane or crutch(18 days after the operation) and even though my steps are short, slower, I like the feeling of not using anything.  I feel my healing, I have my goals, but I don't need to rush or make it sound easy, its just that if your pain is not there, and your strenght is, try what your body wants.  Mine likes what I do which is the combo package.  I just bbq'd with no aid, and I feel good, so I give you encouragement to just try, and if it hurts, go to the aid of your extra leg to take the pressure off.  Good luck, and happy healing, your hipster brother,
Eric
