Hi All,

I'm about 5 mo. post-op, BioMet/Dr. Gross.  Recently had a cavity filled; took antibiotics as directed; that was 2 weeks ago.

For the last week, I've felt some new sensation in the hip.  Feels like a slight dull pain in tissue around the wound.  I can feel a tightness in the tissue when seated.  A bit of tingling too.  The recovery has been really good recently and this sensation is definitely new.

On top of that - I have a 3 week trip out of the country planned begining next week - I obviously do not want to get a thousand miles away and have something come up.  I've been trying to get the following questions answered but not having any luck:

  • What exactly does a delayed infection feel like in the early stages?
  • Can you test for infection in early stages or do you just have to wait till you are carrying a high fever and have a huge hot swollen hip?
  • Could anything else explain this?  I've been really feeling good for the last couple months.  I did spend the last part of last week at a music festival on my feet for many hours each day, but I felt the tingling before that and it seems to have worsened since

I'm really just hoping that I'm worrying too much.  But also do not want to tell myself its nothing then have something flare up in rural Europe.

Maybe someone has been through similar?

Thanks - djm

I had an infection in the area near the incision that threw me for a loop...five week post op, it felt like I had flu like symptoms, most apparent was a fever (102)and chills...spent 3 days in hospital getting fever under control, and surgeon extracting apparent bacteria from my hip to determine the infection (no sedative needle into hip, and prosthesis)...
