Hello all,

I am a 31 year old male with a history of multiple failed hip surgeries. I started having issues with severe impingement and labral tears in both hips in my mid 20s. I had both hips operated on in 2020 and I couldn't go back to any sort of exercising post op. Once I tried to get back to sports and running, I had horrible groin pain along with hamstring pain right at the sit both lower glute area. This is exacerbated by any sort of incline activity. I spent over a year traveling around the US to meet with several top hip preservationists before deciding on a revision with Marc Philippon in Vail. I did a second hip surgery on my left hip this past August and feel no better for it. Philippon reconstructed my labrum and also had to reconstruct my capsule due to a hole that developed after my initial scopes. He also removed a significant amount of adhesions that keeps me from being able to move my hip in its full ROM. However, 5 months along and I still can't stand or walk without significant groin and pelvic pain. Despite testing great with strength and ROM in PT, I can't weight bear and am back on crutches. Realistically, a third surgery on this hip (and eventually a second one in my right hip) don't seem like they could give me any sort of life back, especially since the pain I deal with is so severe that I can't function in my day-to-day life.

For someone like me, who doesn't have severe arthritis and only partial/mild cartilage loss but struggles with instability that causes all of these painful symptoms, would a hip resurfacing doctor be willing to take on my case? I do not have any version issues or dysplasia (unless over half a dozen hip specialists missed them). It's been 6 years since I've started having symptoms and have had to stop working out completely. At this point, my health is incredibly poor and I want to do what I can to get my active lifestyle back because being bedbound for years is unbearable at this point. Any advice ior help s appreciated.

If you haven't already contacted Dr. Pritchett you might consider doing so.  He is well known for revisions and difficult/complicated hip reconstruction.  He did both my hips in 2018 which were not as complex as yours and I haven't had an issue since.  He is well known for dealing successfully with outlying cases and IMO he'll give you an honest evaluation and if anyone can help you, he certainly can.  Wish you the best.
