L BHR Mr Treacy Part2
« on: June 25, 2012, 01:46:13 AM »
As suggested to make it easyier for people catch up I've started a new part.
Well yesterday for the first time since august 2010 I skipped! I asked Mr Treacy if this would be ok at our last meeting in may and he said that it would be fine but just to er on the side of caution I waited another month :). My hip felt fine with the skipping but it did however show up some muscle weakess. I could feel muscles that were obviously still not 100% so I now know the I still have some soft tissues to heal and rehab so I'm doing more rehab exercises!

Well Danny, let me welcome you to the second half of your hippy life  ;D

Cool that you skipped, somehow that feeling of leaving the ground for a second was scary for me the first time I tried it. Now I hop and jump too   ::) .

I was suprised that the hip felt fine i was only the muscles and soft tissues that twinged. I was looking at my xrays again last night and the cup certainly isn't going anywhere!
I've been trying to introduce rowing more in the gym too

Did you whistle while you skipped?

I was a little nervous, also when I made my first jump.  The legs certainly don't have the bounce, but I started doing some side to side jumping/running, a bit like dry land training for downhill ski racing and after a few days of that I started to feel more bouncy.  Great feeling.

Good job.

Hay tin thanks. Yeah there's deffo no bounce like there used to be but I'm sure that will come! I'll do some more skipping in a few weeks(still very cautious about impact). I really need to get back in the pool i think.

Well 33 weeks today! I must say I'm feeling pretty good at the moment. I've been doing some more strengthening work in the gym and it seems to be paying off. However I have noticed clunking again but I'm confident this is down to the extra activity. Ive been doing very light but deep squats and deadlifts making sure I really contract my quads and glutes as i do them. They seem to be working so I'll carry on!

Extra activity and maybe dehydration. Make sure you're hydrating before your workout, during it is too late. Found that one out the hard way a while ago - nearly passed out during one of my TKD workouts, tunnel vision, weakness, the usual stuff.

Its defiantly not hydration issues! I'm doing around 3+ litres a day. I'm peeing like a race horse! I'm pretty sure it's just new movements for some of the damaged structures and scar tissue etc. There's no pain with it and it's not constant so I'm not worried about it.

I noticed the clunk increase a little around the 4 month or so timeframe then and then it went away a little more after I got into more of a steady exercise routine.  I still have it when I move a certain way.  I probably could do more hip-specific exercises to strengthen the muscles.

I did what i think is my toughest gym session thus far today. I did 90+mins of cv (bike and xtrainer) and then did some shadow boxing and bag work. Then i did some light weights, Squats and dead lifts and some shoulder stuff. Then a 10 min cool down on the bike to finish. The hip felt fine! ;D

I will have to see if I can get you a free pass for my gym next week. We can run some post op / pre op tests. I think I will lose in the running and rowing and skipping and strength categories (in fact pretty much everything) but will leave you standing on the cycling!  :P
