Ten Years After (not the band!)
« on: May 06, 2020, 10:00:59 PM »
I just wanted to stop by and say hi.  It was ten years ago in 2010 that this forum helped me learn about the BHR Birminham Hip Resurfacing and to find a surgeon who was very experienced and very successful at it.  I found Dr. Palmer at St. Croix Ortho in Stillwater, MN and the experience was wonderful. (Dr. Palmer has since retired).

I rarely think of my hip as it feels and works as if nothing had ever happened.  I damaged my hip by slipping and falling on an icy concrete front step at our old house. TWICE! It hurt so badly that I can remember both times distinctly.

If I have any regrets it's that I waited and suffered until my hip was bone on bone.  Had I been educated about the BHR earlier, perhaps I would have been out of pain earlier.

I'm a retired chiropractor.  So, I wanted to know every detail.  I downloaded the surgical procedure manual, watched actual surgeries on video, etc. and went into it fully informed.

At the time I had my surgery, the age cutoff was 60.  I don't know what it is now.  I'm 67 as of this writing. AND... I am and have been a large person weighing 360 pounds.  So, if your surgeon says it will fail if you don't lose a lot of weight first, I'm here to tell you I've had ZERO problems.

Anyway, thanks to those that came before me! Thanks to this forum for steering my decision in the right direction!

I hope you can find a great sugeon as I did and, I hope you enjoy a pain free hip for the rest of your life! ;D
