Excellent! Good work, some of us really have to work to get treatment.

Hern, I feel like i've been pulled and pushed around from one surgeon to the next.... none of which seem to be able to make a decision on how to treat me, if at all! It just adds to the stress.
Ruby,
I know its hard to deal with. You have had it far worse than i did. But from the sounds of it you are making progress now. Now that Mr Bache has confirmed that you have significant arthritis in your joint i susspect that Mr T will be happier with operating on you.
Keep the faith you are nearly there.

It's why I never looked at it before the surgery. Remember one thing - you're not conscious or maybe not caring at that point. I was anesthetized, went to sleep quickly and woke up hours later when all of that was done. No fuss, other that the recovery.

Ha I watched em all before the op! I actually remember discussing with the aneathatist my options I said to him is there any chance Mr T won't be doing the op himself? He asked what that had to do with it and I replied if theres any chance that he won't be doing it himself and it could be one of his monkeys then I would only have a spinal! As I was not giving my consent for anyone else to touch me! I reaffirmed this with Mr T in the pre op room! ;D
I'd actually like to go to see a live surgery!

It was one of Mr McMinn's surgery's and he said that the process had been speeded up for video purposes and that it takes about one hour to perfom. Is that really all? I thought it would have been much longer than that.

Ruby Mr T does them from knife to skin to full closure in an average of 25 mins! He is apparently the fastest in the world! I suppose the 7000+ operations have obviously paid off for him!  ;D

I'm fine with blood and all sorts - I work in a hospital after all!

I'm kind of different if it's me though, I fainted once when I had some stitches removed from my foot yet when the nurse was changing my mum's dressing following her cancer op, I was right in there having a good old look lol!

Ha, I think id be the same Ruby. I really dont mind blood and guts and stuff however will not be watching one of these operations. Not pre op anyway. Id probably rather not know exactly what goes on as I think id be worried enough. I will definately watch it after the op though x

1am Sunday morning here and the horrible damp, wet weather that has taken over the UK of late is playing havoc with my hip.

4 Co-Codomol and 2 Diclofenic later and the pain is still there, throbbing away not letting me sleep even though the medication has made me so sleepy.

Roll on seeing Mr Treacy again.

Hang on in there Ruby- it won`t be long now. I remember the weekend before my operation (having had to stop taking the arcoxia prior to surgery as instructed). Laid there crying with the  pain, my left leg felt as if it were on fire. Thought if I called an ambulance they would take me in and give me morphine, then I`d never get to Birmingham for the sugery. In the end I had to take two arcoxia just to deaden the pain a little. At least you know
you`re so ready to get it fixed, remember to tell Mr T!
Also am certain this weather really doesn`t help. When I was in California 3 months ago I had none, came back here and feel as though have gone backwards! The sun and warmer climate sure makes a difference. x

I think the weather does make a huge difference. Today i've woken up and the sun is shining, clear blue skies and although i'm not pain free it's certainly not half as bad as it was last night! That was awful, one of the worst nights i've ever had. I even woke my mum up with my crying  :'(

I really hope Mr T agrees to operate on me now. I'm not sure how I'm going to continue like this if he still says no  :( x

Good Luck Ruby.  Been watching your slow progress.

The top surgeons often take less than one hour to do a hip resurfacing.  I have seen training videos at the courses and also watched live surgeries.  It is not as brutal as you thinnk. The surgeons are a mix of artist, mechanic and doctor.  Everything they do is done very carefully and under the eyes of many in the OR.  The medical rep is always there in case they need a different sized device or a THR or have a special problem.  The top surgeons are very, very skilled.  That is something that only experience can give to them along with some God given skills.

Dr. Weeden did a whole video just for my website explaining every thing that is done so patients can learn.  http://www.surfacehippy.info/shvideos/surgery-videos-hip-resurfacing.php

Ruby, am sure Mr T will be sympathetic :) Mr McMinn took one look at me and the xray and said  "Not surprised you can`t walk with hips like that- yes I can fix them."

Pat- such a lovely description, thank you

Ruby,

From what I've read about your situation if it were me I would be persistent about the amount of pain you are having, Treacy is one of the best docs for hips in the world and I would be persistent to him, eventually he'll give in and do the surgery.

I hate to see people taking pain meds for long periods of time, long term nothing good comes from taking that stuff.

Ruby Im no hip surgeon but i am convinced that now Mr Banche has stated that the chances of a PAO being successful are less than 50/50 Mr T will have you in for a BHR. I think initailly he was probably doing what was clinically appropriate as from the xrays there was little sign of OA(there was little evidence on mine too was only after my hip scope that they knew the true state of the joint space.) It would be irresposible for him to just go ahead with a prostetic when other options were possible and more conservative. Now they have been exhausted i think he will opperate on you.
