Hi Folks,

I'm 5 weeks post op and feeling great, just a little pain but almost walking normally without crutches.
The only problem I have is that I still cannot wear the sock because of the angle...
Did you have the same problem at the beggining?
How long it will take until I'll be able to do it?

Thanks,

Leonardo.

Hi Leonardo

Some people just take a longer time to heal than others.  If you can't get your socks on yet, try getting some help from someone else or buy a sock assist tool. Many people have used them. There is a photo of the sock assist tool part way down this page  http://www.surfacehippy.info/pcwhatwillineed.php

There is no way to predict how long it will take you to be able to bend over to put your socks on.  You just have to let your body heal and wait until you can easily bend.

5 weeks post op is still early in your recovery.  Just be a bit patient and you will soon be able to get those socks on.

Good Luck.

Leonardo,
Get a 6" high piece of wood or something in your house. You can put your foot/heel on that while you are sitting down. This way you won't have to bend down so much to put your sock on. If that doesn't work get a taller piece of wood, maybe 8" or 10". This is what I did and it really helped. Good luck.

Thanks for your responses.
But how long after the surgery it took to you to get it done without the accessories?

Thanks,

Leonardo.

Hi Leonardo

Each person heals at their own rate.  I was able to put my socks on by 4 weeks post op if not a little earlier.  It really depends on your own body.  When you don't have to follow the 90 degree rule, it is easier to start putting your socks on since you can bend over more.

I would not worry about asking others when they could put their socks on - your body will decide when you can bend to put your socks on.  So if someone else took 4 weeks to do it or took 6 months - it doesn't make any difference to you.  You can't force your body to heal - it has it's own time schedule.

Please be patient with your recovery.  Things will happen when your body is ready.

Good Luck.

Hey Leonardo,
If it makes you feel any better I am at 10 weeks and look like a crab on my back trying to get my left sock on.  I know it is getting better but even in the mornings I have my wife give me a hand due to muscle stiffness.  I was never flexible but I could put my sock on before.  I am just trying to gain flexibility everyday.  Good luck.
