Thanks hern. I'm sure I could be pretty much back in shape now if I wasn't working 70hr weeks. But the hip seems great so I'm well pleased with that! I just hope it lasts forever now!

Well, that's the plan, right Danny? It's why you sacrificed as much as you did for this.

On the one hand, that's a lot of hours, on the other, that was one of your goals, to be able to work that hard comfortably, so good on you!

Thanks hern. I'm presently fitter than your average Joe just not up to my own standards ;D I'm sure I'll get there (body allowing as other parts are falling apart right now!). I'm kinda a workaholic I guess in ways I always have been in the past I directed it in the gym at the moment I'm directing it at work. Got a big career course coking up in February which hopefully will open doors for me ;)
I really want to train as hard as I used to but right now I honestly don't get the time. But I'm managing an hour of cardio a night ;D

Another judo session last night. The hip felt OK I'm slightly sore his morning as I went a bit harder than I did the week before(I am sooooooo ou of shape!) my hip is slightly sore this morning but its muscular pain/ache so not concerned. I am icing as I type which even this far along from the op really helps.

The thing that bugs me a bit lately when I work out (if anything does) is the lower back after about an hour on the bag.

I've been working on repeated roundhouse kicks, especially my left leg, and this seems to need some strengthening work. Stretching and pilates style work seem to help, the stiffness is lower each time. I think even at two years, it is necessary to keep that core strong as we return to heavy duty workouts.

Sounds like you're getting back into it, though Danny.

I think your right hern. The thing that bothered me last night was the throw tomanagi. It's the sacrafice throw with the foot into the stomach and sitting down. The constant dropping onto my butt did seem to irritate the hip slightly.

Maybe the form is not crisp too, Danny.

I know that I got so psyched over being able to do my thing, that my form was suffering. I've backtracked a bit and tried to concentrate on the right mini-steps for a full movement so that when I'm more tired and my leg just want to get there, I'm still doing it right.

Throws and ground work are usually more complex than kicks anyways, so the form may be more of an impact there.
Hernan, LHR 8/24/2010, RHR 11/29/2010 - Cormet, Dr. Snyder

Dannywayoflife

Maybe mate. I think it's a combo of inactivity for so long, having had a scalpel through the glutes and it being an abnormal movement for me. I've been icing all day and that's helped massively!

Another judo session last night ;) some muscle memory is slowly coming back I caught loads of people with my arm bar and I actually legitimately threw a brown and black belt(which is awesome for me as I have never really done much judo throwing). The hip is still there but is always slightly there in the back of my mind. It is still weak so I have to do a lot of throws off my left side so my strong right leg is the power side. But I'm sure with time it will come back;)

Thanks hern! It is a long long road but I was very badly out of shape prior to my op. I'm pretty sure had I been in better shape I would have recovered faster. But we can't cry oer spilt milk! ;D

Danny

I'm currently 4 weeks post-op (RBHR Mr Treacy 3rd Jan 2013) and just learning to hobble around the house without crutches so it's almost impossible to imagine being able to do the type of judo you describe.

However it's impressive to read, and I know you're putting in a tremendous amount of effort (just as Hernanu is), so it gives me hope for my own improvement as the months progress.

I'm not a judo man but I used to regularly run / walk up and down my local mountain (Snowdon - North Wales) and really look forward to the day when I'll be able to walk (I think perhaps it's time to let go of the running part) to the top again.

Look forward to hearing more of your continued strong progress.
