I had an x-ray done at my doctors office the other day as I am pretty sure I have a torn labrum in my non-HR hip (perhaps a consequence of FAI). An x-ray is just done to rule out arthritis (lack of cartilage) as the cause of the problems I am having, preparatory to getting an MRI w/contrast.

Anyway, as I was walking out the technician offered to let me see the images; I of course accepted. I started explaining to her that I had a "hip replacement" (I'm sure I'm not the only one who says that when they don't have time for a dissertation on HR vs THR) and when I looked up and saw the image, of course the implant stood out ridiculously. D'oh!

In the future I shall refrain from telling someone who has already looked at several x-rays of my hip that I have an implant. I'm pretty sure she had figured it out.

Maybe she thought it was a very large keychain. You never know.

Could of always said that you have a cart part fetish  :P

I do have to admit, I say hip replacement more often than resurfacing. Resurfacing doesn't quite tell the story as well as replacement. I feel like resurfacing sounds like you went in for a port and polish of the hip.

I agree. I think the term "hip surface replacement" is much better, but you don't see that very often.
