Yesterday marked the seven year anniversary for my second hip resurfacing. I’m partially retired now. Living in Colorado allows me to do something outdoors almost every day. My recovery was very methodical, so it took me some time to regain the activities I enjoyed before OA slowed me down. I bike a lot, hike in the mountains, lift weights, have a SUP and just this year returned to skiing, which for some reason I was afraid to do in prior years. I don’t ski very well, but I do get down the mountain. My hips are fine now. I’ve taken a couple of falls off of my mountain bike that scared me, but the hips were fine.
I don’t … Read the rest

Dr. Gross resurfaced my left hip in 2004. That’s 15 years! So far, so good. I had my right hip resurfaced at the University of KY in 2010. That one, too, is good. I am soon to be 71 years old and though other things ache, my hips do not. So glad I made the hip resurfacing choice.… Read the rest

“I had the resurfacing because I was too young to have a replacement. A lot of retired ballerinas have [hip replacements] but they usually wait until they are in their 60s, not 40s. I just think, look, how lucky are we that we can have titanium put in our bodies and it do wonders,” she says.
Darcey Bussell has much to celebrate this year. She turned 50 a fortnight ago according to The National Lifestyle:

Metal on Metal is still an excellent option when placed by an experienced hip resurfacing surgeon. All the top surgeons have excellent long term results. After reviewing thousands of case studies going back 25 years across six countries, researchers at the University of Bristol say they indicate that eight out of 10 total knee replacements (TKRs) and six out of 10 total hip replacements (THEs) will still be in place after 25 years.
Dr. De Smet places his first ReCerf hip resurfacing device on March 3, 2019 in Johannasburg South Africa. ReCerf is a new type of ceramic on ceramic hip resurfacing device. The traditional standard hip resurfacing device is metal on metal like the BHR , Birmingham Hip Resurfacing Device, the Wright C+ and Biomet. New types of devices are being developed which will be used with all good candidates, even women and small men.
